ADMU Lady Eagles Win Second Championship

The Ateneo De Manila University Women’s Volleyball Team won their second championship in-a-row.

The Lady Eagles defeated the dark horse De La Salle University (DLSU) Lady Spikers 25-22, 25-17, 25-23 ending the league with a classy no-loss manner on Saturday, March 14, 2015 in front of the more than 20,000 crowd at the Mall of Asia (MOA) arena.

As usual Lady Eagles’ team captain Alyssa Valdez put up an impressive number with 20 points, 19 of those are from attacks.

“We really did our best. Before the start of the game, Coach Tai (Bundit) reminded us that La Salle is La Salle. Maganda ang foundation nila and they’re not going down without a fight,” said Valdez during the interview after the game.

She was helped by rookie Bea De Leon, sophomore Michelle Morente and Amy Ahomiro with 10 points a piece.

Ahomiro was later declared as the Finals MVP.

The Lady Eagles was the first-ever team of the school to clinch a championship after defeating the Lady Spiker last year. They are also the second team to end the league with no loss after La Salle in 2004.

The school is the second to win volleyball championship for both men’s and women’s division after UST in 2009.

La Salle Coach to Adopt New System

Coach Ramil De Jesus accepted the loss of his team noting that he and the Lady Spikers must adopt to a more international system, which he thought was brought by the champion coach, Tai Bundit.

“Dahil iba na eh, solid opponents naman ang Ateneo. (Pero) ever since naman, kami ‘yung under sa ganoon situation, kami ‘yung nagdo-dominate. So ngayon, kami naman ‘yung naghahabol,” De Jesus added.

“Yung level kasi, alam naman natin na ‘yung Thailand, nagko-compete sila sa Grand Prix, world class na sila. So ‘yung system nila doon, dinala dito sa Pilipinas, at in-adopt ng Ateneo,” De Jesus added.
