16 Killed in K-Pop Concert
16 people and 11 were injured in an accident that happened during an open-air concert in South Korea Friday, October 17, 2014.
People were shocked will watching the all-female K-Pop group 4Minute when the cover of ventilation shaft collapsed with 27 people fell more than 10 meters (32 feet) into the ventilation system.
According to News Brief, several people climbed up the said ventilation cover in order to have a great view of the Pangyo Techno Valley in Seongnam concert despite the reminders of the organizers to come down. The YTN was able to obtain an amateur video showing the people in shocked after the incident.
People who were not in the shaft were left speechless after hearing loud screams followed by a loud banging noise. One woman standing near the collapsed shaft said a “cloud of dust” suddenly appear.
“There was a sudden, loud screaming, and when I turned it looked as if people were being sucked down into a hole,” one spectator said.
The dead and injured people were believed students, according to YTN. The injured people were brought in different hospital while some of them were reported in need of immediate medical attention.
This accident was one of the strings of tragedy for one of the most competitive country in the world. In April, 300 people were killed after the MV Sewol sank, which boards 476 people, mostly secondary students from Danwon High School.
