At least 83 sidecars that were used for tricycle were confiscated and then later destroyed by the government of Quezon City (QC).
On August 1, the Tricycle Regulation Division (TRD), under the Department of Public Order and Safety (DPOS) started to implement the IRR of City Ordinance No. SP-2337, s-2014, that prohibits colorum tricycle.
Those owners who don’t have franchises will have their tricycles confiscated. They can retrieve their motorcycles but must pay first P3,000.00 as fine. The sidecars, however, will be destroyed as assurance that they won’t be used again.
The DPOS explained that the government will have hard times running after those illegal tricycles, especially when they broke rules or figured in an accident. It also explained that
“Dito sa Quezon City, dalawa lamang po ang binibigyan namin ng permit yung pampasada, tsaka yung delivery. Ang binigyan lang namin ng permit sa delivery, deliver ng softdrinks at tubig,” said Robert dela Cruz, the OIC of TRD.
The TRD is also calling for the tricycle owners to get necessary permits to avoid confiscation of their vehicles.
