The LTFRB Releases The New Taxi Rate

The Land Transportation Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB) just released the new fare system for taxis.
The flag down rate will be P40.00 except in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR). The fare will be P13.50 per kilometer, which is almost 400% of the P3.50 per kilometer.
The waiting time will be removed. Instead, the running time will be added, which will be P2.00 per minute.
If you will be travelling for 10 kilometers within 45 minutes, you will pay the following:
Flagdown rate – P40.00
10 km x P13.50 – P135.00
45 mins x P2.00 – 90.00
Total – P265.00
LTFRB Chairman Martin Delgra said they only simplified the methodology and considered three factors.
“We simplified the methodology to understand only three factors — one will be the flag down rate, then travel time, and the distance travel,” said Delgra.
The LTFRB is hoping that in this new system, the taxi drivers will less picky and won’t ask for additional payment.
The LTFRB also noted that this is just one of the few steps that the agency is taking in order to change the bad system in the industry. It said it will also have an application for taxi drivers, it will also soon require dash cam and CCTVs.
Once a newspaper with nationwide reach published this new system, taxi drivers can now submit their meters for calibrations. However, taxis that are 13 years old and above will not be allowed to implement this new fare matrix.
