Suspected members of the New People’s Army (NPA) abducted two police officers on Monday afternoon in Placer, Surigao del Norte.
Police provincial director Senior Supt. Anthony Maghari identified the officers as Police Officer 2 John Paul Doverte and Police Officer 2 Alfredo Degamon.
SPO1 Zena Panaligan, who is stationed at the regional police public information office, said Doverte and Degamon were on duty when they were abducted. Armed men suddenly appeared and forced them into a van that immediately revved away.
“While on duty, naabduct po sila sa police box… may police box po dun sa junction kasi may market, mga terminal ng jeepney at bus,” said Panaligan.
The van was later found – already abandoned – in the mountainous part of Brgy. Mabini, also in Placer. It rose suspicion that the officers were brought up the mountains.
The Army 30th Infantry Battalion and Surigao del Norte Provincial Public Safety Company have dispatched personnel to pursue the rebels. The CARAGA police was alerted and the intelligence department was strengthened so information will be disseminated.
