South Africa Is 2017 Miss Universe

Miss South Africa, Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, was crowned as the newest Miss Universe.

On Sunday, November 26, at the Axis Theater at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas, Nel-Peters was crowned as the successor of Iris Mittenaere. She will continue the advocacy of Miss Universe.

Crowned as first runner-up was Miss Colombia, Laura Gonzales. Miss Jamaica, Davina Bennett, ended second runner-up.

The Philippine’s bet, Rachel Peters, was able to make it on the top 10.

Nel-Peters is the second South African to take home the crown. The first was Margaret Gardiner in 1978.

Demi-Leigh is a 22-year-old graduate of Business Management at the North West University. She wanted to pursue self-defense for women because she experienced being held up and able to fight back.
