Six minors were arrested in Sta. Ana, Manila after they were caught in the act of sniffing a solvent, News 5 reported.
Solvent or rugby is used by youngsters as a replacement to drugs. Many street children are into it because it makes them dizzy and sleepy, thus forgetting that they are hungry. However, it’s also addicting.
The minors, who are aged 11 to 14 years old, were brought by the local officials to the police station where they spent a few hours.
One of the parents, who rushed to the police station, explained that not everyone was using the solvent when the barangay officials came because her child said they were just having a cup of coffee.
However, Jimmy Anselmo, the chairman of Brgy. 898 Zone 100, Sta. Ana, Manila, didn’t buy the reasons. He even lectured the parents because they have been receiving complaints about the nightly activities of the children.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) brought the children under their custody to undergo counseling.
