It seemed like the plan of the Duterte Administration to push the players in the internet industry was quite working.
Globe just recently announced an $850 million budget for 2018 so it can provide a better quality of internet service to the Filipinos.
Now PLDT just had a deal, reportedly worth $28 million, with Huawei. Manny Pangilinan said this is the “first in many agreements” between the two tech giants.
Pangilinan said Huawei will help PLDT integrate its online billing and service delivery platforms.
During the 2016 presidential campaign, the now President Rodrigo Duterte, said the government will open the internet industry to a foreign player so that PLDT and Globe will perform better.
During the last quarter of 2017, it was announced that the president offered it to China. It has been rumored that China Telecom will play the role. However, it was noted that there is no final agreement and the competition is open to other foreign players.
