Pinay Hailed As UAE's 'Nanny Of The Year' To Receive P1 Million Retirement Fund

Pinay Hailed As UAE’s ‘Nanny Of The Year’ To Receive P1 Million Retirement Fund

| On 30, Nov 2017

Hard work really pays…

Melanie Manansala, a Pinay, who has been working as a nanny in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), for 24 years already, was recognized as “UAE’s Nanny of the Year.” She will take home P1 million for her retirement.

Manansala also took home a plane ticket to the Philippines, courtesy of Air Arabia; a bank account; and several child care courses. She bested other 500 contestants in the factors such as knowledge of the work, honesty, commitment, among others.

The contest, which is in its second year, is established by Rise, a wealth management platform for migrants. Padmini Gupta, the founder of Rise, said nannies deserved to be recognized for their roles in the society.

“They (nannies) represent one in four women in this country and one in two working women in the UAE, however, they are often not appreciated nor supported by society. They don’t have access to bank accounts and less than one percent of them have a retirement plan in place,” said Gupta.

Manansala was overwhelmed. She said she will use the money to put up her dream business, which is a supermarket.

“I’m so happy with the award, I almost can’t believe it! I’m already saving for my retirement, which I believe is very important, and every nanny should do so too. With this prize, my dream can come true to open a supermarket in my home country after my retirement as a nanny,” said Manansala.
