On Friday, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) destroyed P5-billion worth of shabu.
According to the PDEA, the drugs, along with other illegal substance worth P1-billion were destroyed at a waste facility in Trece Martirez City. The agency did not disclose the dates and area of operations where the drugs were seized.
The PDEA was with the officials of National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), and the Department of Justice (DOJ) when the drugs were locked in the haul for thermal decomposition at a waste facility of the Integrated Waste Management Incorporated (IWMI) at Barangay Aguado.
In a ceremony, PDEA Chief Aaron Aquino assured the people that the PDEA will fulfill its duty to dispose of illegal substance immediately right after the court gave it a permission. The agency is now also checking its inventory to see which batch of confiscated drugs could be destroyed next.
“We want the public to witness the destruction of dangerous drugs seized by drug enforcement officers to allay public apprehensions that these illegal drugs and illicit substances are being reused, recycled or sold back in the streets,” Aquino said.
Aquino said he wanted to correct the mindset of some that the agency is recycling the drugs it used to confiscate.
