NU Pep Squad Head Coach Dismisses First Performer Jinx

Ghicka Bernabe, the head coach of National University (NU) Pep Squad, is not buying the so-called jinx in their loss in the recently-concluded UAAP Cheerdance.
The defending champs ended fourth with their error-dotted under-the-sea theme. They performed first, which is considered by many as a curse because none won the championship in performing first.
Ghicka said there’s no jinx.
“Though hindi kami nag-champion ngayon, ayoko namang panghawakan iyong jinx na walang chance mag-champion ang first performer,” said Ghicka.
Ghicka admitted that their loss has not yet sunk on her. However, she is hoping that it won’t make a toll on the students.
“Ayokong maapektuhan ang mga bata because I know na magaling ang mga players ko. Kung mayroon man sanang maapektuhan, sana kami na lang na mga coaches. I still believe in the capability of my players,” said Ghicka.
Though she didn’t question the result, Ghicka actually reviewed her team’s performance after all the universities performed and thought, they still have a chance because only the first part of their routine had failed.
“After matapos ng 7 universities, pinanood ko ulit iyong routine namin sa Facebook. Still nagkaroon ako ng chance and hope na we’re still part of the top three kasi first part lang naman ang may laglag. It’s just three or four stunts but aside from that, flawless naman ang routine namin sa 60% onwards,” Ghicka said.
Nonetheless, Ghicka is happy for the new champion, the Adamson Pep Squad, because her team came in third before they won. She is also happy for UE Pep Squad whose members showed superb performance in the past years.
