After months of his passing, Nadine Lustre finally shared stories about losing Isaiah, her brother.
Known to his family as Ice, the 16-year-old younger brother of Nadine committed suicide in October 2017.
In an interview with Boy Abunda, losing her brother made Nadine realize that life is short and therefore, should only be spent in appreciating everything around.
“So as long as it’s there, you have to appreciate it. All the people you love, give them 110 percent of your attention, iyong care mo, iyong pagmamahal mo. Kasi hindi mo talaga alam,” Nadine shared explaining that she wasn’t able to spend a lot of time with Isaiah because of her work.
Nadine also realized that communication is one key.
“Communication talaga. I feel like a small step could go a long way, na if I had talked to him more, or if I had open up to him or he had open up to me, baka in a way I could have changed what happened,” Nadine noted.
For James, that’s the time when he became stronger. He explained that since Nadine is the source of strength of her family, he tried to be her source of strength.
“After that whole thing, that’s when Nadine started opening out to me. I think it’s because she kept trying to be strong for her family, for everyone looking towards her for strength. So she was really holding her emotions in, and that was one of the things I tried to get out of her. It’s okay to feel sad, it’s okay to cry, to let it out, it’s natural. I think after that, she learned to open up and trust me with her emotions,” said James.
