Rolene Strauss, 22, bested all other 121 contestants, which includes Miss Philippines Valerie Weigmann, in the coronation night held on December 14, 2014 at the Excel London ICC Auditorium.
Weigmann was able to made it to the top 25. But, she fell short in the top 10.
“Being proudly South African, I have firsthand experience that unity, respect, forgiveness exists to those all aspiration of the Miss World Organization, so it would be amazing to represent an organization, so it would be amazing to represent that is beacon of hope all over the world,” said Strauss when asked why she felt she wanted to be Miss World.
Afterwards, Strauss said that she is dedicating her win to her country.
“South Africa this is for you,” Strauss said. “I think I will brace myself for what’s about to happen. It’s a huge responsibility.”
A medicine student, Strauss said that she will try her best to provide people with the opportunity she had, which is education.
“I am what I am today because of the opportunities I have received and I would love to give others the same opportunities; educating, the opportunity to be educated, to make healthy choices and also to live their dreams,” she said in an interview with AFP.
19-year-old Maria Jose Alvarado of Honduras was the first runner-up while Elizabeth Safrit of United States of America is the second runner-up.
