A 19-year-old man made a shooting spree in his former high school in Florida, killing 17 people before he was arrested by the authorities.
Nikolaus Cruz attacked the students after they were dismissed at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. Television footages showed students running away from the building.
Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel said at a news briefing hours later that Cruz is a former student who was expelled for disciplinary actions.
Israel noted Cruz surrendered without a struggle. They believe he was equipped with an AR-15-style rifle and had multiple magazines of ammunition, according to the sheriff.
12 victims died inside the school, two just outside, and one on the street. The two more casualties died in the hospital because of their injuries. The victims comprised a combination of students and adults.
Several videoes, probably taken by the victims inside the building, showed several students trying to find shelter. Several loud gunshots were heard along with screams from the people around.
