Female First-Time Barangay Chairman Arrested In A Drug Bust

A first-termer female village official was arrested by operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Central Visayas.
Epifania Divinagarcia Alvizo, 5, the chairman of Barangay Malabago in Badian Cebu, was arrested by officials and found with 500 grams of suspected shabu that has been estimated to worth P1.5 million.
Yogi Filemon Ruiz, the chief of PDEA in Central Visayas said Alvizo and another her suspected cohort, identified as Ronan Lastimoso Librando, were under surveillance for three months.
Librando, 46, was caught ahead of Alvizo in a drug bust in Sitio Cabil-isan, Barangay Banhigan in Badain. He was caught with 200.06 grams of suspected shabu worth P601,000.
Ruiz said Alvizo, who allegedly sourcing her supplies from her husband, Marlito, who has been detained in the National Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa.
Also found in Alvizo’s possession are four handbooks, three ATM cards, and cellular phones. The agency will be tapping the help of another agency to trace the transaction of Alvizo in the said accounts.
The handbooks showed millions of transactions.
Alvizo denied that she has been selling shabu and insisted that she is just a local official who earns extra income from her store.
Alvizo, the fifth public official in Cebu caught by the PDEA with illegal substance this year, will be facing charges for violation of the Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. She can’t post bail.
