A former mayor of Marawi City has been arrested at a checkpoint in Misamis Oriental on Wednesday night.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) arrested Fajad Salic at around 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday at a checkpoint in Brgy. San Martin, Villanueva.
According to Supt. Lemuel Gonda, Salic, who is the former husband of actress-politician Alma Moreno, was arrested because of a pending arrest warrant issued against him. He violated the Article 134 of the Revised Penal Code or “Rebellion or Insurrection.”
“Hinuli siya dahil may arrest order siya na pending na inisyu ng Department of National Defense,” said Gonda. “Iyung arrest order number 2 na kasali iyung pangalan niya, gawa nung rebolusyon na kaso sa Marawi incident.”
Salic denied the allegations. He said he was never involved in the attack in Marawi City, noting that he was in Manila when the war erupted.
“Hindi ko po alam basta ang pagkaalam ko pinara ako at sinabi na baba ka muna dahil nandito ka sa arrest order number 2,” said Salic.
Salic was one of those politicians who surrendered to the authorities after being dragged by President Rodrigo Duterte in illegal drug trade.
