After a drastic drop in the firecracker injuries and positive feedback from experts and ordinary people, a total firecracker ban is being eyed by President Rodrigo Duterte.
President Spokesperson Harry Roque said Duterte will push the Congress to enact a law that will ban firecrackers and pyrotechnic gadgets as early as possible.
“he president has always banned firecrackers in Davao City as a Mayor so I do think that it is a result of recommendation of any, other than it’s a result of his own prognosis that firecrackers and pyrotechnics are inimical to human health and safety,” said Roque.
The president also acknowledges that there are thousands of people who will become jobless if the total firecracker ban is already up. So, the president ordered the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to find a livelihood program for such people.
The Department of Health (DOH) earlier commended the president for his decision to limit firecrackers in the country in celebration of Christmas and New Year. Several ordinary people also expressed happiness because of fewer fireworks heard.
