President Rodrigo Duterte mulled resigning from his position if he will be able to control the illegal drugs in the Philippines.
In a speech in Camp Tecson in San Miguel, Bulacan, Duterte said he can’t accept it if he can’t control the illegal drugs in the country.
“I cannot accept. I simply cannot accept it. And if I cannot control drugs, then maybe it is time for me to think about resignation,” said Duterte. “Pag hindi ko kaya ito, bababa talaga ako. Sabihin ko sa inyo.”
During the campaign period, Duterte said he can solve the country’s drug problem from three to six months. However, he lengthened his target saying he only realized the country’s real problem when he assumed the presidency.
Duterte also noted his plans to return the Philippine National Police (PNP) in the drug war.
“I have not yet signed the executive order, but I’m inclined to call back the police and join again in the drug war,” Duterte said.
Duterte’s anti-drug campaign has been supported by the majority of Filipinos. However, it was the other way around to human rights activists here and abroad. Weeks ago, Duterte said he will only explain to the Filipinos and not to foreigners.
