Duterte Confronts Pia Ranada Over Article Featuring His Assistant

President Rodrigo Duterte had a one-on-one with Rappler’s Pia Ranada because of an article featuring Christopher Go, his assistant.
“You are going overboard,” said Duterte to Ranada, on Tuesday January 16, during the inauguration of a new air traffic management system.
Duterte then pulled a printed version of the article entitled “Bong Go intervenes in P15.5-B project to acquire PH warships” by Carmela Fonbuena that was published on January 16, which noted that Go allegedly ” intervened in the multi-billion-peso project to acquire two brand new frigates or warships for the Philippine Navy (PN).”
Go himself denied the claims.
“Your articles are rife with innuendos and pregnant with falsity. We don’t intervene with the affairs of the Armed Forces,” said Duterte.
“You can stop your suspicious mind from roaming somewhere else. But since you are a fake news outlet and I am not surprised your articles are also fake, we can debate. Now tell me where are our lies and tell me where are yours,” Duterte added.
Duterte said if Rappler can prove the claims, he will immediately fire Go.
This issue came a day after the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) revoked the license of Rappler because of the controversial ownership. The latter denied the claims saying
