The Department of Tourism (DOT) revealed that the Miss Universe Organization offered the country to host the 2017 Miss Universe.
“Pinagaaralan pa namin iyan pero that’s true, they are asking us to host it again this year,” said DOT chair Wanda Teo.
The DOT chief noted that the organizers were pleased with the outcome of the 2016 competition, especially it overshadowed the pre-events of the recent Super Bowl, the biggest sporting events in the USA.
“Usually, number one iyan (Super Bowl) pero trending pa din ang Miss Universe… So they really want it badly in the Philippines.”
The DOT noted that when the agency accepted the offer, it will push for more control over the pageant. Teo also said that they will also look for more sponsors for the competition.
Teo said after the competition, the tourism of the country got a boost.
“Our islands, food, and the biggest smiles of our people are all over the news and social media these past few weeks,” said Teo.
“The world now knows how beautiful our islands are, how delectable our cuisines are, and how friendly and warm Filipinos are — just ask the Miss Universe candidates themselves,” Teo added.
The 2017 Miss Universe will be this November. Rachel Peters will represent the country.
