Department of National Defense (DND) secretary Delfin Lorenzana revealed that the government is monitoring several home-bound Pinoys who have links to ISIS.
Speaking to the reporters, Lorenzana said, the Kurdish Intelligence provided the Philippine Embassy in Baghdad some names of personalities who are ISIS-inspired fighters returning to their home countries.
The names also include Malaysians and Indonesians.
“They have a long list of names — names of Malaysians and Indonesians fighting in Iraq, a couple of Filipinos, who might come back,” said Lorenzana.
Lorenzana said even before the Marawi siege started, the country has been coordinating with its Malaysian and Indonesian counterparts in order to stop these people.
Australian Defense Minister Marise Payne said the Australia is ready to help the Southeast Asian Countries in monitoring and stopping these terrorists.
“We are very focused on working with our neighbors in the region, working with the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore,” Payne said.
“It’s not simple, however, it’s a complex task across oceans, seas, land and air domains to try and to do that. But it is important I think for us to work closely together,” she added.
The Australian Defense Force will send mobile training teams that will help the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
