Despite the constant reminders, tons of trash were still collected after the 2018 procession of the Black Nazarene.
On Tuesday evening, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) collected a total of 15 truckloads of garbage along the route of the Black Nazarene. In Quirino Grandstand and Luneta alone, five trucks were loaded.
The collected trash were mostly water bottles, styrofoam, cartons and many more.
Socorro Meneses, the head of the Manila Dept. Public Service admitted that the trash cans were not enough for the number of devotees.
Though many were angered, some members of the government who cleaned the trash, were ok with it. One noted that such event usually leaves tons garbage while another, who claimed a devotee, said cleaning is considered as a sacrifice.
