Confirmed: Miss Universe To Be Held In Philippines

Finally! Pageants enthusiast can now rejoice. Miss Universe 2016 will be held in the Philippines.
Department of Tourism (DOT) secretary Wanda Teo said in a press conference on Thursday, July 28, 2016, that the country clinched the honors of hosting the most prestigious beauty pageant in the world. She said the event will be held on January 17, 2017.
Yesteday, President Rodrigo Duterte hinted a development to the bid after he said the government won’t be spending any money in this event. In the press conference, Teo also noted that the funding might come from private sectors.

“I would like to inform everybody that the Miss Universe pageant will be on January 30, 2017 in the Philippines,” said Teo. “The government is not going to spend any single centavo. It will be the private sector who would shoulder the expenses.”
This will be the third Miss Universe that will be held in the country. The first was in 1974 when Margie Moran crowned Amparo Munoz of Spain. The second was in 1994 when India’s Shusmita Sen was crowned Dayanara Torres.
Miss Philippines, Pia Wurtzbach is the reigning Miss Universe.
