Contrary to what was reported, President Rodrigo Duterte is open to talks regarding the human rights with US President Donald Trump.
“The President has always discussed human rights issues. It’s all-encompassing,” said Cayetano in an interview with GMA News.
Cayetano clarified is that Duterte is ok in discussing it. What he doesn’t like is how it was being politicized.
“What he doesn’t want is how it is being politicized and being taken out of context and the way they dictate on the Philippines,” Cayetano added.
Two US lawmakers called Trump to discuss the extra-judicial killings in the Philippines. The President already denied that the government carried out the killings saying the police are only forced to defend themselves.
Cayetano also thanked Trump for offering to mediate in the dispute in the West Philippine Sea.
“It is a very kind, generous offer because he is a good mediator. He is the master of the art of the deal. Having said that, you can see that President Trump wants this to be a better world. It’s going far and beyond the American first and just being there for America. He wants it to be a world of peace and stability and we thank him for that,” said Cayetano.
