The building in Parañaque City that is owned by El Shaddai leader Bro. Mike Velarde captured fire on Saturday dawn.
At about 1:00 a.m., the fire started at the grocery store, according to Supt. Robert Pasis of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).
According to Rodante Dela Cruz, the guard of the said building, he heard several gunshot-like sounds that prompted him to take his gun and respond. However, it turned out that it was a fire.
Fortunately, no one was hurt after the incident. About P2 million worth of assets were destroyed during the fire.
Velarde, who also appeared during the commotion, said his wife called him that his building was on fire. He said the building is worth P40 million and has about 100 tenants occupying the floors. They range from grocers to canteen.
The authorities took note that the building has no sprinkler system so the owner can also be held liable.
