A “Binay” sign was erected on the internationally-renowned Banaue Rice Terraces in Ifugao, which caught the attention of the locals as well as tourists and passers by.
The ABS-CBN news conducted a research about the sign and it turned out that it was built by 66-year-old Henry Lumabong, who claimed a supporter of Vice President Jejomar Binay.
Lumabong, a rice farmer, said he doesn’t personally know Binay and only doing it because he thought the Vice President has the capacities of improving Ifugao like what he did to Makati City.
“Nilagay ko yan para ipakitang isa ‘kong taga suporta ni Binay. Lupa ko naman ito eh.Private property,” said Lumabong, who built the signt by stitching sacks of rice.
(I put this to show I’m a supporter of Binay. It’s ok because it’s my private property).
UNA Claims No Involvement
The United National Alliance (UNA) denied its involvement with the sign.
UNA secretary general Atty. JV Bautista insinuated that this is an attempt by the political enemies of Binay to stain his reputation.
“I have not seen yung sinasabi mo na nakalagay. Pero what logic would Binay or any his supporters to have put something like that as prominent,” said Bautista.
“Kaya to us, it’s just simply illogical that will come from us. Why? Why should we do that? There is absolutely no rhyme or reason to do it. Unless there is somebody out there who wants to create ‘ah epal. Diba?” Bautista added.
Bautista also took note of the sign at Cebu that says it a “Binay Country” saying that they have nothing to do with that.
