The musical film “Ang Larawan” was removed in some cinemas, Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) 2017 spokesperson Noel Ferrer confirmed.
In an interview with DZMM, Ferrer said the mall owners and the producers of the show met after the first-day sale was revealed. They both reached an agreement that the film will be pulled out from the cinemas.
“Mayroon talaga extreme scenario na mismong mga producers ay makikita nila na, ‘Ay, hindi namin market iyan.’ Kaya ibinibigay na rin nila iyong mga theaters,” said Ferrer, noting that a film can’t just be removed without consulting the producers.
Though the film was not doing well in some cinemas, it’s actually earning in Rockwell and Vertis North cinemas, among others.
Shelving out entries is a way for mall owners to please moviegoers, especially this holiday rush.
On his Twitter account, Ryan Cayabyab, the man who put music in the film, thanked the people who supported the movie.
“Ang Larawan lost the following cinemas to better performing films at the tills. Just saying. Thanks to everyone who supported the film. Meron pa rin namang ibang sinehan. Try to catch it!” said Cayabyab.
