The Colombian authorities seized more than two tonnes of cocaine, the military said on Friday.
A coordinated operation with both air and ground troops destroyed a coca laboratory in the restive border of Tamaco. It was owned by the FARC Guerilla organization, which is now being defeated by the government troops.
The authorities seized 2,341 kilograms of cocaine, 450 kilograms of chopped coca leaf and 10 kilograms of cocaine.
The laboratory belonged to “residual groups” — as the military generally refers to dissidents who broke away from the peace agreement sealed 1 year ago between the government and what was the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, which has now disarmed and turned into a political party.
Colombia, which is located in South America, is the biggest coca planters and cocaine producer in the world. According to the UN, it produced 866 tonnes of cocaine in 2016. Tumaco, which is located in the Pacific Coast, is one of the major routes of drugs to USA.
