Tears rain in the house of the Pestilos family during the last night of Anjielica, a grade 10 student, who succumbed to lupus.
Angelica, who was claimed a healthy child and doesn’t usually get sick, fell ill after having a Dengvaxia shot just last September.
According to the death certificate of Anjielica, she died because of the following:
- Immediate Cause: Intractable Metabolic Acidosis
- Antecedent cause: Systemic Lupus Erythematosus; Lupus Nephritis, Severe
- Underlying Cause: Uremia secondary to Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Nephritis
Dr. Tony Leachon, an independent health analyst, said the Dengvaxia vaccine may have triggered the lupus.
“If I were to analyze it, tinging ko zero negative siya, naexpose siya sa Dengue. Meron pala siyang nakatagong sakit na lupus, humina ang resistensiya niya,” said Leachon.
The DOH, on the other hand, insisted that the Dengvaxia didn’t trigger the sickness. USEC Herminigildo Valle said that there are no reports that connect lupus to Dengvaxia.
The family of Anjielica already sought the help the Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) to help them achieve justice for her.
